Can't help but move to the music?

At Nabjab Dance & Performing Arts we offer an extensive range of dance styles plus classes to keep students in tiptop shape.

ISTD Classical Ballet - This syllabus embodies the French and English classical ballet styles including the necessary adaptations for the dancer today.  Jennifer, who specialises in teaching ballet to a professional level, draws on her experience as a dancer to make the classes unique and interesting for the student.  Jennifer educates her dancers, so they get to understand their bodies and why they are doing specific things, and she encourages students from grade 3 upwards to do more than one ballet class per week in preparation for the more difficult grades where girls will eventually go onto pointe.   Jennifer accepts ballet students from the age of two years in her fabulous 'Minimovers' class, which she developed, from working with this age group at the Montessori nursery.

ISTD Modern Theatre/Jazz - Originating in America, modern is a rhythmic style of dance, sometimes highly energetic and sometimes lyrical in quality, used a lot in theatres, TV and film.  The technique, strength and flexibility required to perform the movements are built as this enjoyable and beneficial syllabus progresses.  Jazz is a highly stylised branch of modern that developed out of changes in the music scene.  It's incredibly slick, sassy and great for shows, check out 'Chicago'.

ISTD Tap  - The dancing where you make rhythms with your feet.  Everyone loves Tap!  Originating in the streets with the soft shoe shuffle, and clog dancing on boards, it's exhilarating style has appealed to people for years.  The latest ISTD syllabus is more american in style which suits Jennifer and Nabjab very well, making it very exciting to teach, and learn.  Who doesn't want to dance like Gene Kelly, Savion Glover or Adam Garcia?

Hip Hop and Street  - These dance styles, again, developed naturally in the streets of America, inspired once again by changes in music trends to Hip Hop and Rap.  Rapidly grabbing the world by storm, suddenly everyone wants to learn Hip Hop!  So, as well as freestyle classes, and inspiration from the multitude of Hip Hop choreographers today, Jennifer uses the innovative Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) syllabus as a progressive, challenging and fun route for students to learn all the moves to the latest vibes, and build the necessary skills, strength, speed and flava to be a competent Hip Hop dancer.

Contemporary/Creative Dance - The purest form of dance, usually in bare feet, that looks free yet is incredibly controlled.  Contemporary dance training works on core and body strength, solid dance technique and flexibility, making any dancer a more complete and dynamic dancer.  Probably Jennifer's personal favourite dance style, she again brings all her experience into the classes, exploring different styles and aspects of contemporary dance, merging them and making classes creative and challenging.

Limbering/Conditioning/Fitness - Every serious dancer needs to keep fit for dance.  The body needs conditioning to help prevent injuries and keep the body in balance.  Good fitness equates to more stamina for performance and less fatigue.  Jennifer encourages her students from grade 3/4 upwards to take part in these classes, so they can learn to take more responsibility for their bodies and become even better at their dance.

Pilates Matwork - Jennifer believes everyone should do Pilates once a week, not just dancers.  It's an absolute joy to do.  From young people through to the elderly, not only does Pilates keep the mind and body in balance, and help relieve stress, but it also irons out potential or existing problems by strengthening weak muscles (including core, abs and back), stretching out tight muscles and improving posture. It can help relieve headaches and depression, and is an ideal form of exercise for rehab after musculo-skeletal injuries, for pre/post natal fitness, for older generations and arthritis sufferers.  With regular practice Pilates makes you feel more in control of your body, and who wouldn't want that?

Adult Dance Classes - Choose from classical ballet, contemporary, jazz/hip hop, tap, limbering/conditioning/fitness, and pilates.

Minimovers - The best possible introduction to dance any child could have. Developed over a number of years teaching ballet, music, yoga and fitness to 2-4yr olds in nursery settings, Minimovers is fun and creative and absolutely irresistable to children.
